文学研究所，开展中外文学研究，重点研究蒙古族文学（包括作家文学和民间文学）、内蒙古文学与艺术、蒙汉藏比较文学、蒙古族文学与文化关系、蒙古文学文献、蒙古族民俗等，推动蒙古学藏文文献研究。目前设有民间文化与民间文学研究室、古近代文学研究室、文学理论与现当代文学研究室等三个重点研究室，兼管蒙古学藏文文献研究中心。
蒙古文化研究所初创于1997年，当初是学校内设的科研机构，于2007年经自治区编办批准为行政副处级科学研究机构。
蒙古历史学系成立于2010年，是内蒙古大学为加强蒙古史学科建设和发展，培养蒙古历史、民族特色旅游高层次人才以及国家、自治区历史、文化、旅游等各类社会人才而设立的相对独立的办学单位，学生党团工作由蒙古学学院管理。
内蒙古大学蒙古语言文学系成立于1957年，同年开始招收蒙古语言文学专业本科生。

经过五年的艰辛劳动，由内蒙古大学蒙古研究中心齐木德道尔吉教授承担的锡林郭勒盟横向委托项目“《蒙古秘史》畏兀体蒙古文复原”日前宣告完成，进入出版印行阶段。
2005年12月，民族出版社出版了由陈岗龙博士、额尔敦哈达博士主编的《奶茶与咖啡——东西方文化对话语境下的蒙古文学与比较文学》。这是一部有关蒙古文学比较研究的论文集。论文集的出版，对加强各国、各民族之间的文化对话，加深蒙古文学的比较研究，乃至中国比较文学的研究都有比较深刻的现实意义。
