1900—1932年，哈尔滨成立了中东铁路中央医院、哈尔滨市董事会第一医院、哈尔滨特别市第二医院、滨江医院、犹太医院、孔氏医院、明明眼科医院以及其他多家西医医院。这些西医院的出资方及人才来源各有不同，其服务对象也不同，既有综合型医院，也有专科医院，而且临床、教学、科研一体化，促进了20世纪初期西医学在哈尔滨的传播。
