超过500万粒种子如今正冷冻在美国科罗拉多州柯林斯堡的一间零下18摄氏度的地下室中,它们注定要等上50年,直到进化科学家获得许可用其进行试验。与大多数旨在保护生物多样性的种子库不同,“项目基线”计划被设计用来确保对植物正在如何进化以响应气候变化和环境退化进行精准的对照研究。这些种子采集自遍及美国大陆的250个地区,并被储存在该国农业部的一座设施中。这些种子代表了约60个物种。
