2007年6月25日下午，世界著名语用学家、英国雷丁大学黄衍教授来山东大学外语学院访问，并举行了为期一周的语用学专题讲座。黄衍讲述了做人治学的道理，并细致入微地介绍了语用学的定义、哲学根源以及当前语用学研究的两大流派——英美学派和欧洲大陆学派。期间，他还介绍了他的新书《Pragmatics》。

2007年1月16日，校务委员会王路江主任和美国纽约城市大学VitaRabinowitz校长签署了两校《合作谅解备忘录》，这标志着两校正式建立合作关系，两校合作项目将正式启动。根据两校达成的《合作谅解备忘录》，北京语言大学将与纽约城市大学亨特学院在学术交流与教师培训方面开展合作。
