如今，数以万计的大小设计公司早已遍布各大城市的大街小巷，激烈的市场竞争使中国本土的中小型设计公司的发展举步维艰，愈演愈烈的低价恶性竞争使越来越多的设计师沦为名副其实的“美工”（美术民工），那么，中国中小型设计公司的发展出路在哪里？如何提升公司的核心竞争力？设计师的价值如何得到体现？他们的出路又在何方？
从接触设计开始，前辈便告诉我们，设计的目的就是为了满足人们的需求，研究设计也就是要研究人的需求，并将需求转化为产品。在这种思想的引导下，我们设计界走过了近30年，直到今天我们还在这种观念的指导下从事设计。我们暂且不去评判这种观点对与不对，在当前的社会环境下，我们可以进行讨论这种思想的适合与不适合。
符号化设计——当今设计新趋势

当今社会可以说已经进入了一个“符号”社会，形成了一种独特的符号化设计趋势。本文先论述了符号的概念，然后从产品设计、平面设计、环境设计三个方面分别论述了对符号的应用，并指出作为设计师，要能寻找符号，应用符号表达自己的设计思想。
随着社会的经济发展和高等教育的改革，高校内的设计艺术专业招生数量逐年扩大，由本科教育到研究生硕士招生。由于其他的相应配套没有跟上而在研究生教学中出现的问题开始明确起来。比如设计艺术学专业的研究生课后论文作业，学生拼凑、组合甚至照搬现象日益严重。本文就针对这种情况而提出了建议性的作业完成方式的改革方案，以做探讨性交流。
